Astroscale and SKY Perfect JSAT Form Strategic Partnership to Advance Space Infrastructure Development

Tokyo, Japan, May 19, 2026 – Astroscale Holdings Inc. (“Astroscale”), the market leader in satellite servicing and long-term orbital sustainability across all orbits, and SKY Perfect JSAT Corporation (“SKY Perfect JSAT”) today announced that SKY Perfect JSAT is investing in Astroscale as part of a strategic partnership to support the development of reliable and sustainable space infrastructure. Through the partnership, the companies will cooperate on on-orbit servicing initiatives led by Astroscale, including satellite inspection, repair, and life-extension, and will jointly drive the development of new business.

“SKY Perfect JSAT’s investment marks an important milestone in strengthening collaboration among leading global space companies,” said Nobu Okada, Founder & CEO of Astroscale. “Services such as life extension and refueling for geostationary satellites offer compelling opportunities to improve overall fleet efficiency and operational flexibility. By combining Astroscale’s on-orbit servicing technologies with SKY Perfect JSAT’s extensive operational experience, we will accelerate the delivery of scalable, commercially viable solutions that drive the space economy.”

SKY Perfect JSAT, as one of Asia’s largest satellite communications operators, has built a diverse range of businesses centered on communications and broadcasting. The company leverages its advanced satellite operations expertise developed over many years, as well as its satellite fleet and ground infrastructure, primarily serving the Asia-Pacific region. In recent years, SKY Perfect JSAT has been further diversifying its business portfolio, including initiatives in the national security and Earth observation sectors.

“This capital and business alliance represents a significant strategic step toward advancing into the next-generation space infrastructure domain, centered on on-orbit servicing,” said Eiichi Yonekura, Representative Director, President & Chief Executive Officer of SKY Perfect JSAT. “As the utilization of space continues to expand rapidly, we believe the industry is shifting from simply ‘launching and operating satellites’ to an era in which satellites are ‘maintained, extended, and enhanced in orbit.’ On-orbit servicing is a core technology that will support this transformation and has the potential to fundamentally reshape the space industry in the future.

“Astroscale is a global pioneer in this field, and combining its capabilities with SKY Perfect JSAT’s strengths of long-standing expertise in satellite operations, space infrastructure, and global networks, we are confident that we can create new value. Through this partnership, we aim to establish on-orbit servicing as a new growth area — alongside communications and Earth observation — over the medium to long term.”

This mission represents the final demonstration flight of the ND-50, concluding a series of validation missions and transitioning the system into full commercial production for operational deployment.

In parallel of this success, Neumann Space has already begun scaling delivery of its propulsion systems. Multiple commercial ND-25 units, a lower power variant of the ND-50, were recently launched aboard SpaceX Transporter-16, with additional systems manifested to fly later this year for a range of customers, including programs aligned with defence and dual-use applications.

The CarbSAR mission forms part of SSTL’s broader efforts to advance next-generation Synthetic Aperture Radar capabilities with implications for defence ISR strategies. The mission has been jointly funded by Oxford Space Systems, SSTL, Airbus Defence and Space, UKDI-DASA, Dstl and the National Security Strategic Investment Fund (NSSIF), within a long-term programme that also includes support from the UK Space Agency and the Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA). The successful commissioning of the ND-50 highlights the importance of trusted partnerships across allied nations in accelerating innovation and delivering mission-ready space capabilities.

The achievement comes at a time of increasing demand for responsive, manoeuvrable, and resilient satellite capabilities across defence and national security missions. High-performance in-space mobility is a key enabler for space domain awareness, ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance), and mission assurance in contested and congested orbital environments.

Hervé Astier, CEO of Neumann Space, said: “The successful commissioning of the ND-50 on CarbSAR validates our solid-state technology in an operational environment and marks the completion of our demonstration phase. We are now focused on scaling production to support allied defence and commercial customers who require reliable, responsive propulsion solutions in volume and with a short lead time. This milestone reflects the growing importance of sovereign space capabilities across the U.S., U.K., and Australia, and we are proud to contribute to that ecosystem. We are proud to have achieved it with SSTL, a globally respected leader in satellite systems.”

Clive Oates, Head of Australia for SSTL, said: “The successful operation of the Neumann Drive on CarbSAR demonstrates the value of bringing innovative technologies into orbit and underscores the strength of the growing cooperation between the UK and Australia in space. For SSTL, this mission also reflects our commitment to engaging with Australia’s industrial base and supporting the capability being developed across its space sector. We welcome this achievement from Neumann Space and look forward to continued collaboration on future missions.”

Enrico Palermo, Head of the Australian Space Agency, welcomed this success saying “The Australian Space Agency is pleased to see the Neumann Drive system continue to evolve, attracting international attention and powering more space missions. From enabling the qualification of the original thruster through our almost $7 million investment in the SpIRIT satellite mission, to investing in Neumann's inhouse Australian production facilities, we are proud supporters of the Neumann Drive. Congratulations to the Neumann Space team on this latest success”.
